HABITAT

The Sika Deer comes from the Ussuri region of southeastern Siberia and eastern Manchuria, and northeastern Korea. Sika deer are found in the temperate and subtropical forests of eastern Asia, preferring areas with dense understory, and where snowfall does not exceed 4–8 in. They tend to forage in patchy clearings of forests.

HABITAT

Axis porcinus has a native geographic range throughout India, including the Himalayan foothill zone and Southeast Asia, including Burma and Thailand.

Humans have introduced free-ranging populations of A. porcinus in Sri Lanka, Australia, and the United States, including Texas, Florida, and Hawaii.

Axis porcinus appears to prefer dense forests; however, they are often observed in clearings, grasslands and occasionally wet grasslands.

HABITAT

Fallow deer are native to the Mediterranean region of Europe and Asia Minor and were imported into Texas in the 1940s. This species of deer lives in a wide range of habitat types. They can survive in areas with frequent rainfall, or very little rainfall. They can also survive in areas that are quite cold, or areas that are quite hot. These deer often live in woodlands, deciduous forests, mixed forests, marshes, meadows, and agricultural areas.

HABITAT
Native to India, where it is known as the chital, the axis deer was introduced into Texas in about 1932 and now occurs in a number of counties in the central and southern part of the state.

U.S. Habitat: Axis deer feed on grass and sedges in fields near wooded or sheltered areas. They can be found in open areas during warm periods of the day, but are primarily active at dusk or dawn. Since the axis deer prefer warm weather they thrive in the state of Texas.

HABITAT

White-tailed deer are highly adaptable species and thrive in a variety of habitats. The areas that provide the most suitable environment include a mixture of hardwoods, croplands, brushlands and pasturelands. They prefer an interspersed habitat including meadows, forested woodlots, brushy areas and croplands.
